Hey folks,
Thought I would share my track experiences from this weekend at the NMRA race at Beech Bend, K.Y. I have a F150 5.4, 3.55 posi, reg.cab, swb, XL. I ran it last year at about this time on a hot, muggy, southern night and it went 10.02/70.20 in the eighth and a 15.68/86.37 in the quarter, aint the best but not shameful either. I haven't raced it again till this weekend, its got 19k on it now, I've been running Mobil 1 syn/5w-30 since 10k oil change. I also removed the air silencer and put in a K&N. I've made several passes this weekend and gonna make some more tomorrow. Best so far is a 9.75/71.43 in the eighth and 15.35/87.55 in the quarter, the air was cool today with a slight breeze but the sun was hot. I am delighted that its run this good but I felt it should when I bought the truck. Tomorrow, I'm purchasing a Diablo chip from JohnnyLightning and have removed the tailgate and the spare tire and jack accessories. I am hoipng for a 14sec pass, I will post tomorrow and give the latest. Will give weight of truck also, it weighed 4200 today without me.

Hey folks,
It's my losing open comp but with some track times from todays racing. I must apologize, I forgot to weigh the truck today, but last night I removed the tailgate, spare and jack accessories. Had about 4-5 gallons of gas in it, so I would guess that it weighed about 4060-4080, thats a guess. So, few things I've learned in three days of racing the truck.
1. Leave about 1000 rpm, this allows you to hit the converter the hardest and therefore leave the hardest. If you footbrake higher you will slow down, in my experience.
2. Have to run 93 octane, first day I had 87, next day I had 93, its worth about a 10th or so, especially if you done any mods. I'll explain, my first pass friday was a 15.71/85.23, this is against last years pass of 15.68/86.37, last year hot muggy night with 93 and this year mild day, breeze, hot sun but nice day and air silencer removed but with stock air filter. Next pass I installed a K&N and went 15.85/85.07 and it rattled on shifts. Went slower next pass.
3. A cool motor versus a hot motor is worth about 2 tenths on my truck in the quarter.
So, anyway I installed a Johhnylightning Diablo chip today, and had time for a half cooldown, my first pass and only shallow stage pass for e.t was a 15.06/88.05 in quarter and a 9.54/72.93 eighth, remember lost about 120lbs or so by removing spare and tailgate last night, this against my best pass of yesterday which was 15.35/87.04 with a good cooldown. With the chip and a good cooldown it should go 14's pretty easy. I like the chip, seems to be worth about 2 tenths maybe a lil more. One thing that Johnny and I talked about was improving the terrible 1-2 shift these trucks have from the factory. The chip improved this about 20%, not near like I think it should. Johnny said he would make adjustments to this and let me give it a shot, couldn't make these adj. at the track today so I'll know by the weekend. Anyway, read and speculate at your pleasure :-)

HI!... Leaving the overdrive button "ON" or "OFF" during a 1/4 mile pass does'nt do anything for improving your times. All the button does is give you manual control over the overdrive being "ON" or OFF" that's it.
