oil recommendations

saw a video by"ford tech makuloco" saying to use 5-30 syn oil. i have my first 5.4 and 4.6 3 valve vehicles
that both have 5-20 mobil 1 high mileage oil. guess i will switch to either mobil or pennz platinum 5-30.
rotella is bring out a 5-30 T6 gastruck oil. i use t6 in everything but autos. wonder how good this new oil will be?
also heard ftm throw out pennzoil syn to be his choice because of nat gas refined oil. thoughts?

You likely misinterpreted the information in the video. Since you did not provide a reference to the specific video you saw, it is impossible to follow up.

I would switch to Motorcraft 5w20 synthetic blend. That's what Ford recommends and there's no real reason to use anything else in a 4.6 or 5.4 3 valve engine unless the phasers are already noisy.

and just got a '10 with a 3v 4.6. it had mobil 1 already in it. the video i was watching was on 5.4 maintenance.

Dunno... I had a 97 with the 5.4 and it called for 5w30 oil.. Then, they (Ford) said it was just fine to use 5w20 in that same truck... Uh... No thanks...

Yes, I know a 5.4 2v is different than a 5.4 3v... But, I drove that old 2v to over 255,000 miles when I traded it in and it was still running fine on the 5w30 oil and I did my oil changes between 4-5k miles.. Used Mobil 1 for awhile, but did change to the Penz Platinum when it came out.

I now have a 13 Ecoboost and it calls for 5w30 oil and that's what I run and it's been the Penz Platinum since the truck had 2000 miles on it.. (bought it new).

I change the oil between 4-5k miles on it to this day and it's at 72,000 miles on the clock now.

I know it's apples to oranges with the different engines, but you just gotta do what you think is best for YOU and go with it..

I do respect FTM's opinions, as I've been following his tube vids for some time... Even when he was still working for a Ford dealer...

Anyway, good luck with whatever you do, but I think as long as you change the oil at least every 5k miles , you can't go wrong no matter what the weight of the oil is..

Mitch
