Cam phasers

I’m about to change the timing set on my 5.4 and was wondering, if I replace the cam phasers to the locked kind, what else has to be done?

You'll likely need a tune and I recommend a Melling oil pump.

Do you know what postion the locked ones will lock your cams, in the fully advanced, fully retarded, or somewhere inbetween?

"Fully Advanced" - the position that the vvt system positions cams at idle (below 800 rpm), at heaver load conditions, and at higher rpms, and at deceleration. All other conditions (at gentle driving / acceleration, at cruise, light pulling) - the ECU employs some varying degree of cam retard.
