which is better 5.4 3 valve or 2 valve

I have a 2005 f150 just paid off the camshaft position sensor has thrown a code from the time i bought it now years later started running real bad bad dyeing when coming to a stop or slow turning unless put in nutral replaced both sensors light off running ok next day start it up light comes on and a bit later starts running bad has 270k miles on it. Looking at putting a 80k 2 valve in it just wanting to make sure getting a better engine vs rebuild some warn against 3 valve is the 2 valve really better.

The 2V engine is more reliable because it doesn't have the VCT. But, you got 270k out of your 3v. That's impressive for any engine! It would definitey be more trouble than it would be worth to put a 2V engine in your truck if it was possible.

The 3V is supposed to be more powerful but in 2006 I test drove a used 2005 SWB 4wd 5.4 and it felt slower than my previous truck a 2000 f150Scab4x4 5.4 and I also test drove a new 2006 Scab 4x4 5.4 and it felt slower than my 2000 also. I can't explain it but that is what i felt with my calibrated buttometer.

The truck 04-08 truck are much heavier trucks than the 97-03. The "feel" heavier while srong, more of a solid, robust feeling. True 0-60 were pretty similar, but slight edge to the 3v
