Reverse PI swap

I have an 02 4.6 screw 4x4 that the Windsor motor gave up on me. I recently acquired a low miles 97 Windsor NPI motor. Will be installing only the short block from the 97 and using my PI heads from the 02. I have question concerning the knock sensor. The sensor on the 02 has a through bolt that screws into the block in the intake valley, the 97 sensor is a pipe threaded internal sensor. Would it be better to use the sensor from the 97 and adapt the connector or reduce the pipe fitting and drill and tap it to accept the through bolt and use the sensor from the 02?

Also is it possible to use the cams from the NPI motor in the PI heads? As the NPI cams have more duration but less lift on the same LSA. My thought is it would make for a better running engine

Thanks in advance for your replies

I don't think you have upset anybody, I think that nobody who has the answers has seen this thread yet.

Thanks glc.
I think I may have solved the knock sensor. The ohms readings between the 2 are way different, but it’s an easy fix as the on on the npi is integral with a bolt thread. Looks like a helicoil for the proper sizes will let me clamp the 02 sensor to the block.

Still on on the fence about cams. Would like aftermarkets. Which ever I chose I am going to have them degreed and get a pinnned crank gear.

How did the knock sensor switch work

I am doing same swap from 97 to 03. I am planning on using the pi intake and exhaust manifold from the 03. I didn't realize they had different knock sensor.

Haven’t worked on the truck for a couple weeks, life keeps getting in the way. Is your truck a 97 or an 03? If it’s a 97 just use the original as it is bolted to the top of the block under the intake

If you have a different ohm spec how can you use sensor from 97?

Not on mine, I will have to put a helicoil in the 97 block to accept the bolt from the 2002 block to clamp the sensor. Both of my blocks are Windsor
