Question Front end noise?

Originally posted on Other Drivetrain but I'm wondering about the engine. Lately I been hear a grinding type of sound from the front of the truck when accellerating either from a dead stop or from slow speed. I hear it from 0-1800 rpm but is mostly from 1000-1800 rpm. Today it was more noticeable when I accelerated uphill after turning onto a street (same rpm ranges). I would say there is a slight vibration associated with it. I'm getting close to taking the truck in some other things (oil change, spark plugs, & the torsion bars need adjusting) so I will have it checked but I could really use some opinions on what this might be. (engine, transmission, etc.). Thanks in advance.

I'm taking the truck in next Thursday to have it looked at. I think its got to be in the drivetrain instead of the engine. I tried revving the engine in park and didn't hear or feel anything. A gentleman I work with thought it might be a bad u-joint. It has been more noticeable lately.

I know some of you might be sick of me saying this all the time, but it could be loose accessory bolts. I had a buzzing(grinding) noise and vibration when I would accelerate and it turned out to be the a/c compressor mounting bolts. Two were loose and when under load, it would slap around a bit. It actually sounded like the fan hitting the shroud. Once I tightened them myself, no more noise. Have you ever had your timing cover gasket replaced under warranty? Mine started a month or two after I had that done. My guess is they weren't tightened all the way and eventually worked themselves out. Good luck,,,98

Check the p/s mounts too!

I took the truck to the dealer Wednesday pm. It didn't make the sound on the way there; didn't make it for the mechanic either. He checked everything in the front end and couldn't find any problem. When I drove it home Thursday, it still didn't make the sound then or when I drove it Friday. I'll just have to wait and see if it happens again or not. I had not driven the truck between the previous Friday and Wednesday pm.
