3valve valve cover "redesign"

Just had the truck in the shop for an oil leak(pass valve cover) and they called to give me an option. He called the dealer to order new gaskets and the dealer informed him that Ford has "redesigned" the valve covers/gaskets for the 3 valves due to oil consumption. I've tried to do some research, but I cant find any information so far.

He can replace with OEM or I can spend the extra money on a kit(Covers, gaskets, hardware)

Has anyone heard of this and have any more information??

2006 FX4 SC, 5.4L non flex.

Thanks.

That is a first for me. I think I would go with the original replacement

Oil consumption is not the same as oil leakage. Also I don't know how redesigning the valve cover could lower oil consumption. I'm also curious about why Ford would now be redesigning an 11 year old valve cover.

If my original gaskets lasted 11 years, I would just replace them with the same design and call it GTG.

It might have something to do with the PCV system. There is no PCV valve on the 3V, it has a fixed orifice in the valve cover. I *think* the air is drawn in from the intake tube to the passenger side and drawn out to the manifold from the driver's side.

I asked him for more information when I picked the truck up. Supposedly has to do with the baffles inside of the valve cover.

Yes, those baffles prevent oil from being sucked through the PCV system into the intake. They do nothing to prevent external leaks.

I also have an oil leak on the gasket. This was the original reason the truck went to the shop. The option of new valve covers was brought up when he sent me a quote.
