2005 - 4.6 L - ECT Sensor Location

Hello all- I am a new member here on the forum. Looks like there is a lot of great info here. I'm glad to now be a member.

Does anyone know where the ECT sensor is on a 2005 4.6 liter?
I have a temperature gauge that doesn't reach it's normal temp any longer and fuel economy has gone down. I am assuming it to be a bad coolant temp sensor. However I don't know where it is located.

Do not assume that - it is more likely a bad thermostat.

I am replacing all the hoses this weekend as well as the t-stat.
But knowing my luck it won't be a bad t-stat. I definitely will hold off until the new t-stat is installed and see what happens.
Thanks for the reply.

Your engine does not have an ECT sensor. The PID for ECT is inferred from the CHT sensor.

Also, be aware that the dash gauge is not a true linear reading of the operating temperature, it's divided into segments for various temp ranges. You should be able to put the HEC into DTM and look at the actual values via the odometer or message center display.

Thanks for the reply. I had a scan tool on it the other day and ect temp only showed 135 degrees fahrenheit . The gauge was about a quarter below where it usually is. So not really sure what the culprit is at this point. Long term fuel trim goes up on both banks at higher RPMs. At idle the LTFTRM is about +7 on each bank and at 2500 RPM it goes to +12 on each bank. I had a bad MAF sensor about a year ago and that was replaced. The truck has 245k miles on it. Still runs great, but not a ton of power any more from a standing start.
