Hard , cold mileage numbers requested . . .
Hard , cold mileage numbers requested . . . for F150 SC 2wd and 4wd with the 4.6 liter motor.
Wife is tranferring work locations and will req daily round trip of more than 70 miles.
We are looking to get a truck for her to drive - either an F150 Supercrew or a SC.
Havent decided on 2 or 4 wheel drive yet . . . but its gotta get decent mileage. Her current '98 Dakota 4x w/318 gets brutal mileage. I hope the Ford is better.
thx Sean

i'm not **** enough to do a milage chart, just spot check it every few tanks. my truck is stock; '97 f150 2wd ec with 3.55 gears and auto tranny. if i drive it, it gets 13.2-13.9mpg in the city, if the wife drives it, somehow it only gets 9 to 11, hmmmmmmm..... on the highway it consistantly gets 22.5, thats with the cruise control set at 75 crossing the delta, and no i dont let her drive it on the highway!
I have a 4.2l, but I hear that the mpg difference between the 4.2l and the 4.6l is minimal and not very noticable. I get around 16.5 mpg's with lows 14.5 and the high at 19.5. If you looked in my past posts, I have about 1/3 of my miles loaded with 1000 lbs or more payload at deliveries between 100-250 miles round trip. For a 4x2 SuperCab, I would expect 16 mpg's mixed driving (I am assuming you or your wife will be driving somewhat lightfooted). Will you be using the truck as nothing more that a daily commuter? If so there are alot better vehicles suited for the job as far as mpg's are concerned. Ford's just don't get that good a mileage (diesels excepted), or trucks for that matter. I hear Chevies/GMC's get great mileage in the 1/2 ton class, and the compacts V4's get 25+ mpg's.

VW Jetta TDI gets over 50mpg.
I doubt you will ever see much over 20mpg in any truck. I have a ranger and it get 21 constantly.
My 97 F150 4x4 4.6l with 3.55 is luck if it ever see 17mpg. Its usually 14-15mpgs.

The current 5.4 is 13 city and I have gotten 20 hwy (seem to have a heavy foot with this one though)

I agree emphatically with Msparks. If you get the SC, 4wd, OR long bed, you'll pay for it at the pumps. Some people seem lucky, but there are too many variables to make blanket statements or comparisons. Altitude, fuel quality, type and quantity of tire tread, etc. will influence mileage. Surprizingly, 5.4 vs 4.6L eng size doesn't sem to make any real difference in mpg. I drive pretty sedately, but never get over 14.5 mpg. Average 11-13. See if you can drive a truck a day or so, to check mpg before buying.
