2001 5.4 swap for 2000 4.6!!!
Hi guys! Newbie here. Somewhat mechanically inclined, and I'll have help.. Just want to make sure I'm not missing anything for this swap.
I know, I know. You can't believe I'm downgrading. Well, it's all I can afford to do since the 5.4 seized up on me.
I have a 2001 f150 with a 5.4 in it. I took it offroading and like an idiot I forgot to check my oil level first.
Driving home, she seized right up and it's pretty obvious there's no fixing it without ripping it apart and rebuilding it.
I've acquired a 2000 f150 with a 4.6 for significantly less than the cost of repairing the 5.4. I have the whole truck to work with and the engine is in great shape.
As far as I've seen and read, it should be a fairly simple swap.
I'm told, so far, that the only issues I'll run into are as follows:
Need to swap torque converter
Need to swap PCM and wiring harness
Swap intake
Swap exhaust
I'm under the impression that the tranny will bolt right up. Hopefully this is the case as the donor tranny is pooched.
I'm also told that I can still use my remote to unlock/lock the doors.
Any thoughts, advice or suggestions?
Keep on topic please. I'll post a how-to when its all done.
