5.4 gas mileage
fordyfour,
Sure I do..infact, I averaged just over 18 mpg on the highway (only one time on the highway so far) and 14.4 in town...average in town is closer to 14.0 most of the time.
I have 1,650 miles on the truck...so once it is broken in...I think those numbers are quite possible. I quoted the sticker mpg of 15 and 19..and to be honest..I was somewhat skeptical at first.
I enjoy the power too much...so I don't think I will ever see those higher numbers anyway.

I just went and came back from Boston to Washington D.C.
About 17.2 on the way down, 17.6 on
the way back. All highway. A lot of cruise control, mostly around 70. We don't
do a lot of "around town" driving, and average 15-16 for most fill-ups (most driving is a 15 mile commute, 10 of that highway).

I've probably got the worst stock set-up for mileage (5.4, 4x4, 3.73, etc.). Also have all the common mileage "enhancers" (cat-back, chip, Airaid FIPK, etc.). I've yet to break 14 in everyday city driving and do only slightly better on the open road. Buy the 5.4 and find something else to worry about. Or, buy a Yugo.

I usually average 15.5 to 16 mpg combined city/hwy. I checked it today after heavy footed city and only 40 miles of hwy driving and got about 14.6. I've topped out at about 18.5 interstate driving at 75 to 80 mph and have never gotten below 14; even in Atlanta traffic at the SEC championship game averaging anywhere from 30 to 90 mph! Man...What am I saying....! I have noticed it drop about 1 to 2 mpg since the weather has turned cold down here in the south.

I have been getting between 13.5 and 15 mpg over the last 2k miles. My initial 1k I was at 16 to 17 mpg. My truck is stock as of today. Although some modifications are planned.

At 12K on the clock, I have averaged 15.6mpg. I have gotten a low of 13 on one or two tanks but I usually average about 15 arround town. On the highway I have gotten high as 19.6 but 17-18 is the norm with a small load in the bed. I always run at least the middle grade of gas or better (Superchip added 10% to my mpg).
I have a brother-in-law with a 98 identical to mine except with the 4.6 and he is posting about the same. Your driving ethic will also play a big part. Go with the 5.4 - the extra power is worth it.
