how long

I'm new to this board. i have seen a lot of good info so far.

My question is.
I'm looking at buying a truck from a friend. it is a 89' f150 with a 351 v8. it has 150,000 miles. how long till i will have to rebuild it. i know it depends on the driving habits of the previous owner, it was an old man so i think that it should still have some life in it. thanks for any help. oh and it has new tires and shocks. he is only asking $5,500 . id that a good deal. it is an extended cab with nice stereo and an automatic. thanks for your time. chad

The price sounds a little high for a 89 you should check the going rate on KBB.COM. As far as how much longer the engine will last it should go to 200,000 miles before you should rebuild maybe a little more than that depending on how hard you would drive it if you buy.

Cool I Agree

I agree, souds a bit high. but if it is in mint condition and I mean MINT and you really must have it than I cant see why you cant pay a little more than its worth. Definatly check with KBB.com, thats where I go before buying anything. 200,000 miles sounds about right, plus after a rebuild, theres a whole lot of aftermarket goodies you can add to that 351. Anyway, good luck, and happy truckin'

My 1989 F250 with 351 had its motor replaced at 230,000
The truck ran great then one day smoke pored out the back
only when driving so the shop (company owned at the time) said it was the rear main but after pulling the motor and taking parts off they then noticed the dip stick was bad. I am glad they put a new motor in it because I bought the turck 1 year later.
