VCT solenoid question

I feel like this should be a no brainer, but I'd rather be safe than sorry. Is it safe to pull the VCT solenoid to inspect it to see if the screens are clogged? I just don't want to pull it and run into any issues in case it needs to be reinstalled in a certain way. Mechanically inclined, just clueless when it comes to VCT technology

Cheers

I changed the drivers side on my 05...the biggest hassle is the grommet around the top of the solenoid...I would purchase a new one...otherwise, they come out real easy...mine did not come with a new grommet, and I managed to not damage it too bad...fwiw!

Yes it is safe to pull them. If they have never been replaced, replace them as the new ones are updated/improved. I used a flat blade screw driver on one of the grommet tabs to have enough 'lip' to grab, and then pull it off with a seal puller. Use a one piece torx tool to loosen the VCT, you don't want to drop anything in there There are several youtube videos on it. On the drivers side you will need to move the power steering reservoir and/or bracket.
