Boroscoping the timing set

I'm looking for those that have replaced their cam phasers and/or timing set.

I'm getting a loud rattle under hard acceleration and I have this gut feeling its my timing chain tensioners that are broken. I've seen videos on replacing cam phasers and timing sets and it looks like a big job. Before I just go throwing parts at the engine wanted to see if I could inspect it first. I have access to a boroscope at work and wanted to know if anyone could tell me if there is a way to get down to the tensioners through the VCT solenoid hole with a boroscope? If not are there any other ways or ports i could go through with the scope to see the tensioners and if they are broken.

I believe you can pull valve covers and inspect without a borescope

Removing the valve covers requires hours, a borescope would take minutes. I don't want to go through the process of removing the valve covers. That's the whole point of using the borescope. And if I removed the valve covers I wouldn't be able to see the tensioners. What part of the phasers actually breaks? I read something about a pin shearing off?

You could see the chains and see if they have slack in them

Taking valve covers off isn't that hard, and shouldn't take you hours to do it

I can't be disassembling my truck right now. Nevermind, I'll figure this out on my own.

I'll be trying the borescope tomorrow at work, I'll post some pics of how it goes and my findings.

I think you are going to be "sorely disappointed".
