Turns out it was the pump... new Delphi unit I had originally installed was evidently bad....

Looking back, I should have double-checked pressure while cranking the engine - I had only checked it after turning the key to the "on" position (was in rush & working alone... didn't think of it)

Lesson learned.... at least I was on the right track at the beginning - thanks once again to everyone for all their help/suggestions....
