98 f150 4.6L spark plug removal.

I have changed all but one of my plugs. Cylinder 8 is giving me a problem. The socket is not dropping over the plug far enough to engage the hex. With a 4in extension on the plug socket it drops down the hole but will not seat on the plug. I have an IR t-30 compressor and tried blowing the hole out with 175psi of compressed air.

Unfortunately I can not get a good view down the hole. I can see the back half of the plug and all looks well. To much stuff in the way for a camera.

I have tried my spark plug socket which I used on the rest of the plugs and a 5/8 deep. Even tried a 16mm.

Any ideas.

get or make something that can go down far enough to scrape around the base of the plug. It's got dirt or small rocks around it. Dislodge it and then blow it out.

A 3/4 inch copper water pipe with a notch cut in it works good.

Had same issue. Turned out to be a minute piece of gravel in the bottom of plug well. Stick an air nozzle over the well and blow it out. You can also put the plug socket over the plug and tap on it with a hammer to shatter the piece of gravel.

#8 is a PITA. I'd use a dental tool to break up any debris, and fasten a 1/4" ID hose to your blowoff gun and really get it down there. As you know, you don't want ANY of that debris falling inside after removing the plug. You plug hex could also have a burr on it. You can rent snake cameras from most auto parts stores for a few bucks. I'd be very careful with tapping the socket.

Just as an FYI, your compressor might make 175 PSI, but your regulator, or gun can seriously retard the usable PSI. Most OSHA rated guns only release 35PSI to my understanding.
