Post Anti Drain Back Filters

After reading the pissed on slap thread I was wondering if anyone had any experiences (Bad ones) with Mobil's new oil filters. I have read that they are considered fine filters. My problem is that the first time I used on in My 95 SHO Taurus I had a noise that wasn't there before. I had been using STP filters for this engine. The noise sounds almost like timing chain slap and goes away above idle..say just several hundred RPM above idle. It's similar to a valve tapping sound. Any thoughts as to the drain back valve or what could reasonably be the cause. I do have 115000 miles on this car. Just weird that the noise was only present after the oil and filter change...

Thanks, Jeff C.

Hello Twisted 99: I have been using the new Mobil #1 oil filter and have no problems at all. I also use their Mobil #1 oil.

You know, Now I know I am not crazy. After I changed the oil and filter on my 96 F150, I noticed the same noise, and it goes away just above idle. I have 79k on the motor. I have changed the oil twice, since I acquired the truck a while ago. The filter I use is the Motocraft filter. I think I am going to go back to the Fram, and see what happens.

There was thread on here a while back that linked to a page that had oil filter comparisons on it. they showed cut apart filter so you see what was inside a how they were put together. Fram was not favorably rated. I went to the Mobil 1. it was rated the best by the site and seemed to be made better than most of the others.

Rich..
I would NOT recommend going to the FRAM filter ( PH-2 for the F-150)! The one time I used it on my 98 5.4L F-150..I had a great deal of chatter at start up. When I switched back to Motorcraft..the noise was gone and never returned. Many other F-150 owners have experienced the same problem with FRAM filters. Bosch filters are very good..I have used them recently.

I was one of the individuals who cut open a PH-2 FRAM filter (also Bosch # 3410, Motorcraft FL-820S, and Deutsche #? )...and I will not use FRAM again until they get rid of the 1) plastic anti-drain valve and the 2) cardboard end caps. I have been using FRAM filters for many years in our cars..but not anymore. They are pure junk when compared to all of the other filters on the market today!!!

Cool

Hey Twisted, I had a 95 SHO but traded it in because it kept stalling on me. No Ford dealership in the state of Conn. could fix it. Have you had any similar problems?
