Vct disable?
Vct disable?
Has anyone ever tried disabling the vct in their truck without using lockouts? I was wondering if there was a program or anything or even just a reason as to why it would or would not work. Anyone with info I'd appreciate your take on it. 06 F150 5.4 3v
The VCT Solenoids are "spool" valves, routing oil pressure to retard / or advance the cams. Their default position is to send the Phasers to the extreme advance position. The ECU does not apply any retard signal at idle (below 800 RPM) or under light engine load (< 25%). Unplugging the VCT Solenoids would disable vct - functionally the same as lockouts. HOWEVER, You would have a DTC unless you installed the Livernois lockout "tune", and the phasers could still mechanically make noise - which the lockouts eliminate by forcing the phasers firmly against the end of travel to prevent the "dieseling noise". Why you ask? I would not recommend either.
Was simply asking to see if it would do the same as a lockout without installing them but if it would still make the noise then there is no use in doing it. My truck only made the dieseling a few times and now has stopped except for the ticking of the spring in the phasers.
Sounds identical to mine - since I did a couple of really thorough engine flush treatments and switched to 0w40 fully synthetic oil. The "TICK" is even intermittent. Sometimes does it / sometimes doesn't! Would give anything to know WTF it is. I'm thinking THAT is lash adjusters - and I may change all them out (since I cant figure how the heck one would ever figure which of the 24 were actually responsible for any noise - and intermittently doing so).
Naw, their not locked out and I'm not in favor of that. Had a big discussion about that over here: http://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/11...l#post15647418
