Post Mobil 1 5w30 recall!!

Just found this on the blueovalnews web page. Haven't researched it yet, but for those of you who run it, check it out!!

•Bad Mobil-1 5W30 oil still on store shelves. Mobil oil is advising consumers NOT to use 5/30 oil with manufacturer codes of X19K9A3, X20J9A3, X21K9A3, X22K9A3 and X26K9A3. The codes can be found on the bottom of the products container.

Guys,
Unless I hear it from some other source I would take anything I read on that page with a grain of salt.

My 2 cents worth

Cool

I agree, they are pretty hard up for news. They only report the negative stuff, or whenever they report the good stuff but put a negative spin on it. For example, Lincoln LS wins Car of the year (domestic and Import now combined) They say...lets talk about how Ford bought the award...penned by "Automotive Extremeist" some other guy with an axe to grind with the big 3. I'll lay you odds neither one of these guys has driven an LS. That site is crap!

I agree that Autoextremist site is even worse... I read that rant about Motortrend COTY...What a joke... He said.. "I remember having to drop everything in the fall of '86 and turn my creative staff's full attention to developing TV commercial animatics, magazine ads, billboards and associated dealer versions of the creative work in a rush presentation to the people from Peteresen Publishing, that was to be held at Chrysler's headquarters. All for a bad K-car derivative that didn't even deserve to be "Rental Car Of The Year." The problem with this statement is if I remember correctly the 1987 COTY was the Thunderbird Turbo Coupe... (I owned one) What advertising was he working on?? The 86 COTY? In the "fall of '86" I wouldn't think so...

I agree...that site is not very good. I thought I was on the wrong site at first with all of the ranting and raving going on. To be honest with you..I don't see any real "news" with this claimed "Mobil 1 recall".

I went to and searched the entire MOBIL web site..and I could not find any information concerning a recall of their 5W-30 oil. There is a bunch of information on their products.

If anyone finds any credible information ... please post it.

Well, whether or not it's accurate, I would like to thank Basshunter for bringing it up. I just bought two cases of Mobil 1 5W-30, and you can bet I just ran out to the garage and checked the numbers on each quart. I'm safe, but by only one number ! Even if the story was full of schit, I would still have taken them back and exchanged them. At $4 a quart, I don't want to have any doubts. Anyway, thanks B.H.
Take care,
~Chris

If this is true, I would like to know more about any potential problems with the oil. Like what harm would come from using it. I don't keep old empty bottles lying around, so I have no idea what codes I used.

Sadly, it seems much of their [BON] information is accurate. Ford isn't suing them for posting lies, but for posting internal company documents.

Just like print or broadcast media- be sure and NOT believe everything you read. That "extremist" site is way out there!

Hi Basshunter,

On the contrary, you didn't offend anyone! It is quite possible Blueoval's story is valid, and even if it isn't, we'll find out sooner or later. We all would have reported it as a "heads up" just as you did.

When you mentioned the article, I decided to visit BON and read up further. I haven't been there in a long time, ever since they became an "alternative" (hate) site. When I got there, out of the corner of my eye, I noticed the article on the Lincoln LS - re Motor Trend car of the year. I thought...wow maybe BON is changing from a Ford hate site to a Ford news site like it was before. It will talk about the good stuff and the bad stuff...just like here. Instead, when I read the article it consisted of the same old BS...how Ford like other car companies buys the award etc. written by some other idiot who once worked on a K-car advertising campaign.

Anyway, thats the story. The whole purpose of this site is to "network". When we come accross items of interest we post them. Then everybody has a chance to put in their .02. Thats the fun of it all. What you see in these posts is a few of us venting on BON and no reflection on you! See...now you got me thinking about fishing....hehe

Thumbs up

Basshunter,
You did not offend anyone at all. I am extremely interested in items such as this (and so is everyone else). My post should have been more clear..that blue oval news presented this "recall" without any substantial information...not you.

I have 6 quarts of Mobil 1 ready for the next oil change...and I also want to make darn sure it is quality oil before it goes in my engine.

Your heads-up post was great..don't take it so hard.
