5.4L V8 205,000 miles

Hi,
Looking to make a purchase, came across a 2004 Expedition with the 5.4 v8. Seller wants $2,200 so I was looking for the catch. Everything body and frame-wise is in great condition so I checked out the mechanical side. Everything appers fine except for the fact that it has 205,000 miles (330,000 km) on it. Is this something I should be concerned about? Maybe you f150 guys can give me your say on the 5.4.

Thanks guys

Maybe because I am experiencing problems with my 05 at 177k miles, I am jaded...I would pass...unless you don't mind throwing an engine in it in the near future? It's a gamble! I hope that if you buy it it will give you lots of trouble free miles...

Regards!

The Expy didn't get the 3 valve till 2005, so I'd say jump on it. The 2 valve in there should have another 100k miles left in it.

GLC is more optimistic than I am! 205k is a LOT of miles! Replacing or rebuilding an engine is expensive, you might want to price than first and decide if you can afford to that without warning!

I would definitely check the compression on all cylinders and put a vacuum gauge on it while running and see what story it tells. Those two checks are probably THE BEST way of finding out what mechanical condition the engine is in and how much wear the valves, pistons and rings have.

A 2 valve is a lot cheaper and easier to rebuild than a 3 valve.

The 5.4-2v is one of the most reliable longest lasting engines made by any manufacture. I wouldn't be scared by those miles as long as the truck is in good shape other wise. If maintained well it is not uncommon for those engines to last 350-400 thousand miles.
