I replaced the starter solenoid on my 04 f150 5.4. After researching online, I found that NAPA sells them for under $40. I talked with a mechanic from Ford who told me the starter is rarely the problem but they can charge a customer $200 + labor and then sell the starter core core more $. I was going to remove starter to install it but couldn't get to the two top bolts and broke off the bottom one. I learned after taking the solenoid loose with the two small screws on the front and it came out without having to pull starter. I installed the new solenoid and it works fine. It was irritating being told that I had to spend a ton of money on a $40 part.
