Thinking of getting a block heater as my truck takes a long time to warm the cab in the morning. Any one installed such a thing? They cost about $75.00 and I'll told fit in the place of a core (freeze) plug.

Living in a cold climate (-10 celcius) today and going to -20 tonight, I hope this helps.
Block heaters are standard equipment here and work great to insure that your truck starts in the morning. But they do not do much for the cab heat, rated at 250 watt a hair dryer puts out more heat. They put out enough to asist starting but if you can, you may install a heat pump. It is an electric water pump that heats aswell. You place it in the heater hose line and it pumps the water through while heating it. This way you will heat the cab and motor at the same time, your factory thermostat and bypass will prevent the warm water from entering the rad. Just remember to leave your heat on hot to open the valve to allow the flow to the heater core.
