Power Steering Issues

I have a 1997 F-150 4.6L 4x4. (Super cab if that matters).

The other night i was leaving my house, backed up to turn around and when i started to go forward again no power steering assist at all. I checked the fluid, and it was at the correct level, drained the whole reservoir refilled, still no change. I checked the serpentine belt (it was intact but damaged, so that has been replaced.

While replacing that, i noticed there is approx 1 to 1.5 inches of slide on the power steering pump pulley. It will slide in and out of the pump if i pull push on it.

I jacked my truck so the front tires were off the ground and the wheel turns very easily back and forth.

Does this sound like an issue with the pump? as far as i can tell, there is no leaking.

Thanks in advance.

I had a feeling as much, but wanted to check as it seems strange to not have a leak, but i am no mechanic.

Thanks for the quick advice.
