Thumbs down Why I will never go to Penske Auto again!!

OK I know being the fanatic that I am, I should change my oil myself and maybe I will when I get this new gadget that dumps your oil without having to unscrew the drain plug.
So I go to the local Penske at 10:20 am and ask if they have time to change my oil. He said it would take an hour. I said an hour to get it in or an hour total? He said one hour total. I then said that I had to leave at 12:00, To pick up my daughter from school, so it had to be done by then or I can always come another time.
12:00 and I am back looking at my truck up on the rack. "Is it done?" I ask. Almost he says. I said you know if it wasn't going to be done by noon, I could have came back. I have to pick up my daughter from school.
12:15 he comes out to tell me we don't have 5w30 so he is putting in 10w30. I said I don't want 10w30, I want 5w30. The manufacturor calls for 5w30 and that is what I have to have. He says that"s just so they can pass EPA standards. (like I don't know) I said Ford has been known to void warrenty work on engines if they find 10w30 in there. I added that they better put in writing on the receipt that they put in 10w30 against mine and Fords wishes. He then says that 5w30 and 10w30 are the same except on start-up. DUH! I said well it IS winter and that is exactly why I want the 5w30!!! (Keep in mind I am paying for Mobil-1=$$$)
12:35 now and the oil jockey comes out and can't figure out how to do the bill because I brought my own oil filter(motorcraft-just to be sure I don't get a fram) The first guy tells him to give me his employee discount on the oil and just charge me for labor. Bill comes to $38.00 I leave mad as hell about the oil and being late. I later look at my recipt and it only says $14.95 for labor, so I have no reciept for the oil. I don't know about you, but when I buy something, my reciept usually says what I paid on it!!!
That was last thursday.
Monday I went to a garage where I know the owner, and told them to change my oil, but leave the filter if it looked new, and to put in 5w30 Mobil-1. I called the dealer to confirm the recomended oil grade and then called the complaint # for penske.
Still haven't heard from them, but when I do, I will demand the $38. back PLUS 6 quarts of 5w30 Mobil-1 mailed to me or this will be the first page on my website untill they do!!!

I can't believe when some one comes in with a Truck that obviously has been customized to the degree that mine has ($4,000 worth) and brings their own filter, that a place would put anything in that Truck other than what the customer wants!!!
Secondly, maybe they could have offered to rechange the oil to 5w30 (at no charge since I already paid) when they got some in.
Thirdly, the recipt should show that I paid $38 not $14.95. What is that about?
Forthly, and I know it's pushing it, but, they could have offered to take me to pick up my daughter. When I got there she was sitting in the office and I was informed that she had fallen while waiting outside and had a nasty scrape and bruise on her shoulder. Gee, do you think me explaining about the idiots at Penske would make up for me not being there?

Thank goodness they don't have any of those Penske places here in Central California...I sure wouldn't use them after hearing your story, Andthensometoo. Question: Has anyone ever seen Roger Penske smile?

Clean your engine! If you are so picky about the "exact" oil, then why is your engine so dirty? At first I thought maybe you were offroading, but then your paint is nice an shiney.

Good looking truck by the way(except for the engine).

Service, All I can say is if you want it done right do it your self,

Sorry to rag on you, just poking fun.

Penske auto centers are one of the few companies that do not give incentives or commissions to their employees for upgrading services. I believe that this is a 2 way street. It keeps dishonest from ripping you off but it may make them less concerned to do the job quicker.

There's a Penske near me and they're always dead. The guys always take their time and that place is shorthanded. Also the place closes early too.

Raoul your are SO wrong!! (I am NOT a woman-just kidding!) I usually get better service than a man would. When most people go to the Builders sq or home depot on the weekends, they can't find any one to help them, whereas, when I go, the employees come up to me to ask what I need and then precede me (even though I say thanks and indicate I can "take it from here") thoughout the store loading the cart for me as we go. Then they want to help me load the Truck, but that is where I draw the line. Nobody loads my Truck but me! I have my own bunge cords to secure the stuff, so I don't need their string either.
ps. I can walk through a hardware store eating a banana if I want too!! In fact I think I will.

There are service problems everywhere. I took mine to Jiffy Lube because I had good service before. This time they were finished in a very short time. I got in, started to drive down the street and see their fender cover flapping from under my hood. The receipt showed how the manager had done an inspection of the work.
The mistake I made was to go back. I should have just kept the fender cover.

Well they called and said they will send a coupon for TWO complimentary MOBIL 1 oil changes. I won't be going back to that one, but maybe if I have a lot of time, I will go to another Penske IF they let me watch!
I did save that temp. "home page" and will reuse it if necessary.

Raoul, I think I will do that on Dec 31st 1999 and what ever occurs, you can't blame on me.

Wow, I used to work at K-mart auto just before it turned Penske. Same stuff, just different name. I liked and trusted the guys I worked with. I thought they were a good bunch of mechanics. But, everyplace is different. Better luck next time though.

ATST: I hate to say it, but that's why I do my own oil changes. Don't cost but about 10 dollars, and I know its done right.

Thumbs up

If you don't have time or don't want ot deal with the old oil, take it to a LOCAL mechanic that you trust to do it.
You know the same on that you have been thaking your trucks and cars to for those big jobs.
I have one that is across the street from My shop and I know exactly waht I am getting.
NAPA filter and I think he uses Valvoline oil, not sure but it's not hte bulk stuff or the generic crap.
Hecharges me $20.00 and I just park my truck over there in hte morning and walk back over there to pick it up when they are done.
Ultimate in convience.
If i had to take it somewhere and wait on it I might as well just do it myself because it's more conveneint.

Andthensometoo, isn't Penske a Division of Sears????? If it is, write a complaint letter to Penske and copy a letter to Sears to their home office in Chicago, I bet you get results....Good luck.
