Lightbulb Pinging

FYI:

If you have pinging problems (especially at WOT) with no fault codes stored (Check Engine Light ON) and no other obvious defects (need tune up, plug wires, vacuum leaks, etc.), I may have your answer.

Find the octane short bar located between the battery and firewall just forward and above the spot where the ECM enters the passenger compartment. It is taped to the wiring harness. Remove the jumper. This retards base timing 3-4 degrees. Apparently, this adjusts the engine's base timing for variations in fuel octane and/or quality.

This solved my pinging problems completely with no noticable affect on drivablility. I found this "fix" at my local library in the Haynes manual applicable to my vehicle.

Happy Holidays
