The 4.2 will spank the 4.3 with a decent driver. I have a 4.2 5 sp and if you are not afraid to bounce the rev limiter you can beat many trucks. To date (not bragging) I have outran (in the quarter mile, at National Trails raceway, Columbus,OH) a 4.6L 5 sp.(Nascar Ed., this guy was pissed!), 2 4.6L autos, a 305 auto., a 350 auto, and 2 350 5sp.(one a 2wd, the other a Z71). Many of these owners were upset after I told them they had been beaten by a V6. Their trucks were stock (so they claimed) and mine has nothing but a 3 chamber Flowmaster(for now) and a ton of suspension work (7"-9")drop. The difference is that my truck hooks up and this truck is not the first thing I have ever raced. The only truck that has ever beat me bad in an official drag race was a V10 Dodge, it got me by about 1 1/2 lengths(.25 sec). Just cut a good light, rev to about 5250, and you'll do fine.

My ex-fiancee's blazer had some power. Would take my V-6 F-150 off the line to about 30 mph or so, but at speed it was evident that my V-6 did better.

Chevy's only fast because of the gearing. Ford makes 'em to pull. Chevy make's 'em to look flashy.

I'll take the puller...

Mike
