Fuel Filter
Fuel Filter
I am changing my fuel filter for the first time, and I am having a problem removing the old one. I remove the clamps on each end of the filter but cant remove the connections on either end. any help on disconnecting the fuel lines from the filter would be appreciated.
Just be carefull, they are underpressure, and some fuel will leak out then quit.
I remember having problems getting mine off of my ranger(haven't done the F150 yet.) Anyhow. if you frig with it long enough I'm sure it will come.

Hey Bro, I had the same problem. Thought I would let you know that there is a special tool that you have to use to remove the lines. The tool is a little round piece of plastic with a ridge on one side. What you have to do is insert the ridge into the end of the fuel line and pull at the same time, then it will pop right off. I looked at mine and thought it was the same as the old fords but its not. I found the tool at the auto parts store.
and the tool is good for many
The tool is fairly cheap $5 or $7 if I remember and it works for nearly all makes and models. Be sure to release the pressure on the fuel system first.
The Haynes series of manuals are excellent on this.

I had the same problem getting the fuel lines off when I changed my filter. The plastic "Fuel Line Disconnect" tool would bend when I tried to jam it in there. I finally got them off, and yes you do get a lot of gas running out of there. I would recommend a decent metal version of the tool if you can find one; I couldn't.
Also, remember to disable the fuel pump, and try to change the fuel in the early morning when the truck has sat a while and there isn't a lot of fuel line pressure.

You can get the metal fuel line disconnect tool at NAPA. They are fairly expensive, forgot what I paid. Also it is best to change the filter after the truck sits all night then I released the pressure at the schrader valve on the fuel rail. Not to much of a mess.
Interesting.
I changed my fuel filter and bought the metal clamp removal tool at PepBoys for less than $7.00. Somewhere on this site there is a link to a guy's website who owns a Ford and documented the steps to changing the fuel filter.
BTW, I depressurized my fuel line by starting the vehicle up and depressing the fuel cutoff button.
That's what Haynes recommended!
