Post Wrong radiator

I also have a 1.2 and have talked to service rep.
I find it interesting to hear all the different stories from all over the country. My rep from Lodi WI. says ford is coming out with a customer satifaction program for wrong radiators. 1. cash settlement. 2. Voucher to buy new vehicle. 3. Replace radiator. I am waiting for phone call!!
If this were to happen I will post it.
I was advised of this on AUG 28th.

Bill from Sun Prairie WI

Tomorrow I go to make local dealer, where I took delivery of my SCrew 3 weeks ago today, for them to see that I have the wrong radiator and get it replaced. Service manager on the phone said he'd never heard of this and tried to say for my vehicle I had the right radiator. I'm hoping this doesn't come to a battle, but I'm ready to wipe the floor with him, figuratively, if I need to.

Let you know....

I just picked up my SCrew from the dealer, I have a new
2.2" radiator installed!!!!

I did not go in whining about being ripped off with a 1"
radiator, I explained I tow a 20ft boat to Arizona and Nevada through the Socal desert at 120 degree weather.
That I purposely took delivery of a truck with a Class III
towing package for the supercooling, and electrical.

Rep authorization only took one call.
He ordered it and installed it within a week.

SweetLou,

Take off the cowling that covers the radiator and measure the thickness. That will tell you.

All I'm going to say is I paid for the Supercooling Pkg which includes the 1.42 radiator and I expect to receive it or the Consumer Protection AGency in CT(like the Waffen SS) will be hearing from me. I don't believe it'll take anymore than that. In fact, if all goes well, they might just say we errored and we'll fix it.

Here's hoping.....

It's good to hear people are getting new radiators, and that ford is apparently going to cry uncle on this one. Sticking up for what you believe in (and paid for) works sometimes.

You don't need to remove the cowling... just peek in between the tank and the cowling on the side... it will be real obvious. My 1.02" was replaced with the 2.02"... much bigger... no way to miss the difference.

Beast,

That is another one of my questions. How do you know whether your vehicle should get the 1.42 or the 2.02? I've looked through several of the Ford publications. Some of them say 1.42 and others say 2.02. The capacity of either system is the same as far as coolant goes and that is about1.5 gallons more than the standard based system holds I believe.

With me it was the service managres decision to give me a 2"
radiator. He must be an old school tech, his comment was that I should have a "double core"

Pat

Doesnt that Dk Highland green look awesome at night?

Thefoyboy,

My dealer, Portsmouth Ford, Portsmouth, NH, ordered a replacement radiator for me in May, kept it in stock until last month, the Regional Rep offered me the extended warranty in place of the replacement radiator! I went with the warranty for a couple of reasons - I think the radiator in the truck will take care of all my cooling needs - I did not want the ham handed Ford mechanics messing with my truck - I get a free oil change every 3000 miles from the dealer, now going out to 6 years / 100,000 miles - and the Ford Roadside Assistance was extended also.

So, overall I'm pretty happy with the deal! Ford did admit to making the mistake and left me pick the fix! Not bad . . . !

Bob

Same here. Only the ford training website actually specifies what the oversieze radiator is supposed to be for 2001 (1.42"), but the 2001 Expy's I looked at on the dealer floor had the 2.02".

Swampview,

I was going to get the radiator no matter what they offered. While they say the standard may be adequate, at what cost to the life of the engine? They don't put the upgrade in the towing package just to make you pay more.

As for the extended warranty, I'll buy that and accept it as a cost of owning the truck and I already get lifetime free oil changes, so that matters not to me.

I'm glad, though, you got what you want. That is what counts.

Beastrider,

I did find out that the 1.42 is the upgrade for the Supercrew. The 2.02 is for the Lightning even though several folks are getting them for their SCrew. They thought that is what I wanted and if they were willing to offer, I wasn't going to refuse, but they said no, I get the 1.42 and that is great as that is the upgrade.
