1997 F150 4.6L 2wd prob

So i just replaced the fuse box on my 97 F150 did it one wire at a time so i would not mess it up.

Got all done turn the key and the fuel pump didnt come on. it would only run on starting fluid. shot power at the fuel pump fuse the relay did not click. pulled the relay out and shot power at the wire going to the pump and it turns on. i switched the relays around and still the fuel pump will not click the relay. so i took the 4 wires out that go into it and tryed wiring it other ways and it still will not click the relay. i have a LT blue orange wire coming from the fuse 30 *on the relay* Dark green with yellow going to the fuel pump *87a on the relay* Red wire *86 in relay* and a lt blue with orange *85 in relay*

i have switched them around and nothing. if i put the dark green with yellow *wire to pump* on 87 instead of 87a the pump comes on when i shoot power at the fuse but the relay does not click.

everything else works just fine i just dont see what i am doing wrong. any one have any ideas?

thanks

This might be a dumb suggestion, it's just a guess. Did you check the inertia switch, not tripped and is getting power?

guess it helps to have the PCM relay in. put that in turned the key fuel pump relay clicks and pump turns on. i dont know if i had a wire in the wrong spot on the relay or not but it comes on now. going to try and start it today.

Explanation:

Yeah, it won't energize the fuel pump relay unless the PCM powers up first since the PCM has to issue the signal to turn on the FP relay. A quick check to see if the PCM has powered up is to observe the MIL during bulb prove-out. If the MIL illuminates, the PCM has powered up.

yeah put in both relays turned the key and bam they both clicked and fuel pump on.

Jumped my truck today fired right up. still running kind of funny and threw some flames out the pipes. i crawled under only to find my passenger side long tube header has cracked all over the primarys and even in the collector.

im wondering if the header leak is making it run very funny/ very rich. outside air is getting sucked down the primary/ collector and hitting the o2 the o2 is saying WAY TO MUCH AIR and it throws alot of fuel.

it runs alot better when its cold/first start and open loop. when it hits cold loop is when it runs like crap.

Exhaust leaks before the O2 can definitely richen things up and throw a lean code.

Any codes? If it's been sitting a while you could have stale gas which will make it run like crap.

So should i just order the painted ones or do the SS ones really hold up and worth the extra money?
