Trasko Oil filter

Has anyone heard of a Trasko oil filter which is supposed to filter impurities as small as 1/10th of a micron out of your oil? I was looking into a bypass system when I stumbled onto the Trasko. Does anyone use one? Any info would be helpful.

thanks,

Ed

No, I haven't, but I have heard of the FS-2500 that filters down to 2.8 microns while the average filter strains 25 to 30 microns.

For more info, here is the site....

The Amsoil by-pass system can filter down to 1/10 of a micron also.

The question is at what effeciency. You need to look at absolute effeciency 98.6% and nominal effeciency 50%

Amsoil is absolute at about 3 microns, and is still 72%@ 1 micron.

So when asking other manufactures about there product find out for Absolute and nominal effeciency. But pretty much anything under 4 or so microns is what you want.

FYI cigarette smoke is approximatly 1/10 of a micron!

I think you will find that most by-pass filter systems will filter down to at least 4 microns and a majority will be between 2.75 and 4 micron Aboslute.

What makes me worried about the trasko filter is that it doubles as a full flow and a by-pass. I would not feel comfortable using this setup.

also the capacity of the system is the same as a full flow. You are not getting the benifit of increased oil capacity.

More oil capacity will give the oil longer life because of the increase in additives. also contaminants will be diluted substancially more if contanmination does occur.

lastly, and extra filter will give some cooling effect since you are increasing the surface area that the oil comes in contact with, and depending on the location of the filter it will get good air moving over it(hint mounting in the grill or the under side of the vehicle)
