Hi guys... So my LS has pulled my heads after spark plug related catastrophe only to find that the heads are shot ($4,000). Evidently lots of metal shavings everywhere ect. Since the engine has 190k it looks like a new engine is the best route.
I was quoted $6400 for a Jasper replacement. Is this a fair price and the best route?? A little feedback would be greatly appreciated.

 

Thats about right for a Jasper replacement. I was quoted $3200 for another non-jasper rebuild + $1500 for the swap. I elected to go with a used motor from a 2010 4.6 with 26k miles that I paid $1200 and to perform the swap myself. If I had it to do over again, I probably would have paid somebody else to do the work for me.

 

Why spend that much on Jasper when you can get an OEM reman for less with a better warranty?

P/N 5L3Z-6006-DRM $2945.80 plus an $800.00 core charge. That's complete from pan to valve covers, sealed assembly, just swap intake, exhaust and accessory drive parts.

In most cases I can get them delivered to a commercial address at no extra charge and I can get the cores picked up free as well. (in the lower 48 anyways)

That has a three year, unlimited mileage parts and labor warranty.
