Hi guys! Once again I need your input and help. My 04 SCREW Lariat needs a new engine. It still runs right now, but several mechanics have said its past repairs. I've got timing chain rattles and i dont know what else. Check engine light is on and the mechanic said it was related to the timing issue. Anyway... Ford wants to charge me 7200 for a new engine with 3 year unlimited miles warranty.

If I bought a used or reman engine and did the swap myself, how do I make sure I'm not going to run into the same issues? Is an 08 5.4L a direct swap for my 04?

Either get a warranty on the replacement engine, or if you are getting one from a junkyard, have a compression and leak-down test performed. Otherwise, you have no idea what you are getting.
