Question: What keeps the slack out of the valve train? Most have a hydrolic cushion (lifter of one sort or another) so as not to be lashed every second day (solid metal to metal) valve train. is not the 4.6 just overhead cam/lifter/valve, as by its position on the head you do not need pushrods.

You are correct in your concept except they are called lash adjusters. They are oil regulated. Same idea different name.
