Post 5.4 0-60 times

I am trading up my V6 for a 2000 F-150 with the 7700 payload package, including 3.73 limited slip rear end and 5.4L V-8.

Can anyone give me a very close estimate of their 0-60 times with their 5.4L? I am tired of getting wasted by Dodge V8s with my little V6 F-150--time to make war!

I pulled consistent 0-60 times of 7 seconds and a little change with my 4.0L Ranger, and want to get my F-150 as fast if possible.

Please let me know what mods you're running to get your times down.

A stock F-150 I test drove pulled about 9 seconds today, estimated. My V-6 does 12 seconds--chipped so lots off the line, but after 35 mph it dies.

Thanks very much!
-Mike

I've been told 0-60 of appx 7.5 sec stock on my F150.
Never tried it though.
In the tread "F150 vs Other trucks" in the computer chips forum someone said a 5.4L regcab F150 was the fastest full size production truck.
Other than Lightning of course.
Then again a Lightning is a 5.4L regcab, just gets an extra "boost".

Just a warning...I have a 97 w/5.4 and 3.55's. I got dusted by a Tundra at a stop light the other day. I guess the Tundra's lower rear really does make a difference!

Anyway, I'll drive American 'til I die. (or at least until they make an even trade on the tarriffs.)

I haven't met a chevy yet than can meet the match. I must always end up at a light against a 4.3 V6 according to my bow tie friends.

Mike,
If you don't want to get beat up on by Dodge's or Chevy's then buy a Chevy.

54regcab,
I haven't seen a 5.4 reg cab break out of the 16's in the 1/4 yet.

Question

Sweet99, since you are on this site you considering a Ford?
Are there any sites like this one for Chevy?
You are welcome here as long as you don't talk smack on Fords.

The 5.3 Silverado is quicker than the f150 5.4. I'm getting mid to upper 8 second 0-60s with the F150 and low to mid 8s with my 5.3 Silverado. Quicker, but not much! The 5.4 F150 is better for towing, and handles very heavy trailers better than my Chevy. Most magazines I've read test the 5.4L 0-60 in the mid to upper 9 seconds, one of the carpoint critics has 10 seconds on his spec sheet. My F150 weighs in at 4700 lbs, it's gonna take more than 260 HP to make it a race car.

Mike,
Um...I'll bet it takes me upwards to 20, 25 seconds to get to 60mph. Depends if I'm pulling a trailer or not.
Why are you worried about stuff like that? I bought mine because I wanted a truck with pulling power and one that would last. If taken care of that is.

Craig also 5.4l
(sorry, couldn't help myself)

Main thing is the towing capacity--which is why I'm looking at a 7700 series. Gives a really nice towing/payload spec, but still has the F-150 body style for a little spunk.

Anyhow, I like being first when I'm challenged at a red light... :-) Got used to it when I had that 'ol Ranger.

OK, OK. I'll try not to rub it in. Well, I'm over here cause there's really nothing to talk about on the other boards. I have nothing against my buddies on LS1.com or Sporttruck.com. I'm just a little bored. If any of ya'll live in the DFW area, I would like to meet out at the Sanger drag strip(seeing how Ennis is closed now)this Friday. Anyone game?

Mike,

I ran a few tests ...My 98 F-150 supercab, with the 235 hp 5.4L, 3:55 rear, was at 9.8 seconds going from 0-60 mph.

My 2000 F-150 supercab, with the 260/265 hp 5.4L, 3:55 rear, is at 7.9/8.0 seconds..(my very first test was 7.8 seconds)

Here ch*vy..ch*vy...ch*vy!!

Well, here's the poop.

I went out this morning and test drove a 2000 F-150 with 3.55 LS and the 5.4L engine; then test drove a 2000 Silverado with the 5.3L engine and 3.42 axle (non-LS.)

I must say, I might just defect to the Chevy side...

My best 0-60 run with the Ford was 9.02 seconds, per my stopwatch.

The Silverado did not have a limited slip axle, so it made a direct 0-60 comparison very difficult. I gave the truck about a 5 mph running start, but still screeched the tires. Made three runs, the best 0-60 time was 8.72 seconds. Worst was 9.5.

The Silverado passed at speed better than the F-150, which didn't have much punch above 60 mph relatively speaking.

So there are the performance figures. Max towing for the heavy duty F-150 (did not have one on the lot) and the Silverado I tested is 8800 pounds. Max payload for the Ford is 3200 roughly, max for the Silverado is about 1800 or so.

The Silverado I spec'd to match the F-150 I'm looking for (with the exception of the lower payload) costs about $1000 less than the Ford. Admittedly, the new towing system and some other things on the Silverado look pretty nice too...

I did notice that the max power and torque on the Silverado come at higher RPMs (285hp at 5200, 325 ft-lbs @ 4000 respectively.) The F-150 has 260hp at 4500 RPM and 350ft-lbs at about 2500 RPM. That Silverado loves to rev, though, and it *goes*.

To make a long story short, I'd planned to buy another F-150. This new Silverado's got me thinking twice, though. Seems like a fairly well-made truck and I can't complain about its acceleration.

Motor Trend tested a Reg Cab 5.4 for 99' and it ran a 15.4 second 1/4 mile! And they had it run 0-60 in 7.5 seconds. My truck alone will run 0-60 in 8.2 seconds, which is pretty good. And dont talk smack on Fords please Sweet99Chevy, because we can do the same to chevys.
