I have always used Fram. Even like the sure grip so I don't drop the hot oil-filled container on my head when changing. After reading the link above, I'll go with purolator and wear a helmet next time.

cruiseman,
I know exactly what you are talking about! I bought 2 FRAM filters for my F-150..found the study posted on another thread then decided to open one up for myself to see just what was inside. I could not believe what I found inside. I will also not use FRAM again.

Luckily I still had the receipt from the store..so I returned the other FRAM filter.

msparks,

I saw the K&N filter also..and almost bought one. Like the MOBIL 1 filters, they are also very expensive. If anyone tries the K&N filter (or opens one up)...please post what you think of it.

I changed my oil (only) at 260 miles, using Castrol GTX 5w30. Last night I changed my oil at 1415 miles this time using Mobil 1 5w30 and a Motorcraft filter. I was going to wait until 3000 miles to start using Mobil 1, but the weather is getting cold. I will change oil again at 3000 miles, and then every 3000 miles after that.

From everything that I have seen, Mobil 1 is worth the money (especially if you have a heavy foot). Motorcraft and Purolator filters get the nod here, and a Mobil 1 filter if I feel like spending four times the money that day!

I think that the 5000 mile change interval in the owners manual is a bit of a stretch.
