Smile 4.6 Power Change

A friend of mine does not believe that the 4.6 underwent a horsepower increase. I'm pretty sure that a year or two ago, it got a couple more ponies from the original '97 truck model; but, cannot find any proof. Am I wrong? Can any of you guys give me the Engine Specs of a New F-150 with a 4.6, and a 1997 F-150 with a 4.6? We have a streak dinner riding on this, and I'm very sure that I'm am right. Thanks!!

The 2K1 4.6L has 240 horsepower... that was one revision, and there was another in 1999 when they updated the body style... it went up to 225 hp.

Enjoy that steak,

I just ordered a 2002, and here's the info I got:

2001 4.6 (281cid) HP = 231
torque = 293

2002 4.6 (281cid) HP = 239
torque= 293

For 2002 the engine is called : 4.6L EFI V8 HPI (HP Improved)

I've got a 99' and I've looked in the owner manules many of time. Mine states that the 99' has 220 H.P. stock. I've heard they beefed it up to 235 in the 00' models. Go to a ford web site and I'm almost cetrtian they will tell you there. Hey, by the way if im right I want in on this.hahaha

Either one of 2 things.. I've heard they put PI (Power Improved) heads on, or they're using ricer math (change the brochure).

Either way gunboat is correct as I've seen those same numbers in the literature I collected while shopping for my 2001.

I just wish that they would put the e4od aka 4r100 back in the trucks with a 5.4.
