Question Engine oil

Since I just got my first F-150 about six weeks ago, I have been doing a good deal of research about what kind of oil to use. I went to a NAPA store today and asked for Mobil One. They didn't have any, and said that some manufacturers(I think he said GM) did not recommend the use of synthetics. Everything I've read has shown that synthetics are far superior to petroleum-based oils.
When you think about it, the manufacturers probably don't want us to use synthetics!! They don't want their engines to last forever!
Anyway, I still am going with Mobil One...seems like most of you are using it....just wanted to get your thoughts about what type you are using (and what type of oil filter). I want only the best for Clifford(that's what my daughter named my truck...after the big, red dog!!) Thanks for your help!!

engine oil

Well, here we are...over 7 years and more than 102,000 miles later, and I still love my F-150. Sure, I'm tempted each time I pass a Ford dealership, but I just go home and wash my truck to deal with the temptation to buy a new one. At 9,000 miles I switched to Mobil 1, but then eventually became a loyal Amsoil user. My truck runs and drives like new still, doesn't use any oil at all, and I often get compliments on how sharp it is. My next one will be a Power Stroke 4x4, but until our daughter gets out of college, ol' "Clifford" will do quite nicely. Here's to our Ford trucks!!!

While under warranty you can do a lot worse than Motorcraft Synthetic Blend 5W-20 (Under $10 for 5 Qt a WalMart) and a FL-820S Filter changed ever 5,000 mi or 6 months whichever comes first.

As to out of warranty a quality Synthetic will usually last 7500-15000 mi or 12 months whichever comes first. However I would do a Used Oil Analysis to assure the viability of the Interval and Oil I wanted to run.

IL State Police ran 15,000 mi OCI with Mobil 1 5W-30 for years on their Police Cruisers with good results but had to stop after switching to the 4.6L Ford as the Troopers kept running them out of oil with the typical 1 Qt / 2700 mi consumption they had from extended idling and high speed pursuits.

NAPA Oil Genius

I bet GM would be interested to know that they don't recommend synthetic oil, especially since new Corvettes come from the factory with Mobil 1. mercedes also recommends Mobil 1 and I think porsche does too.
