I prefer the 10W-30 Mobil 1, it will flow as good or better than any conventional 5W-30 motor oil, which BTW is what Ford recommends you use. Ford makes this recomendation based upon the low temp flow properties of 5W-30 motor oils. However the low temp properties of a convetenal 5W-30 motor oil can easly be matched by Mobil 1 10W-30 while provideing superior film strength compaired to 5W-30 oils including Mobil 1's.

Haven't we discussed this before?

Thanks for all your replies. I've read the other topic about "what motor oil you use" but there seems to be a difference of opinion on the use of 5W30 or 10W30, so I can't really make up what oil to use. My problem is that my first dealer used 5W30, while the second used 10W30. So with which should I stick... I called the second dealer and they said that I should look on the engine. But if the engine says 5W30, why did that same dealer use 10W30? I'll try to clear it up again by calling the dealer. It's kind of confusing.
Thanks.

Post What kind of Motor Oil?

Hi,
I have to take in my truck('98 F-150 V6) for a 5,000 mile service Tuesday, but I'm not really sure what motor oil I have to buy(Use Mobil 1, the dealer where I go offers Mobil 1 for twice the price of that at PepBoys). I've been to two dealers, Mullinax Ford South puts 5W30 while Sawgrass Ford puts 10W30. So what is it supposed to be, 5W30 or 10W30?
Thanks.

Stick with 5W-30 oil....

I live in Georgia..and it gets rather warm to say the least. I have only used 5W-30 oil in all of my newer vehicles and have NEVER had a problem.

5W-30 oil flows faster than 10W-30 oils when cold..and 5W-30 has the SAME heat tolerances as 10W-30.

The owners manual and stickers under the hood are specific about the use of 5W-30 oil.

PLease read the following post in this forum and there won't be any doubt in your mind. Whatever Ford says is "preferred" in your manual is what you should use. It appears they are getting pretty sticky on warranty claims if you use an oil that is not stipulated as preferred in your owners manual...

"Oil issue-engine warranty claim -please read!!!"
