Oil Change intervals

Just wondering when you all have your oil changed. I take mine in to have it done, one I don't have time and the biggest reason I don't have anyway to get rid of it. So with that being said do most of you go off mileage or dates if your rig sits for awhile. Case in point my tends to sit and the sticker said I should have it changed back in Dec but I still have 3K before the mileage is due. I don't tow and as said don't drive it much so I'm on a 5K oil change time frame. Went out today and started it and the dash told me that a oil change is required. So I was just wondering what most do and what is the harm if I don't change it? Thanks for your advise.

I go 5k miles on conventional and ~7k on the Motorcraft syn blend. Get's about 10k miles per year put on it and driven regularly, at least 3 times per week, if not every day.

Seldom driven, I'd still change it every 6 months.

Time doesn't matter anymore, - since it's a sealed system. Just miles. I change it every 3000. Always use the recommended oil.

I change my truck every year lately. I dont put 3000 on it in a year the last couple of years. My Vic I change it at about 6000. My pos GMC van I change all the time because it has a PTO that runs a carpet cleaning machine. Some times I change it every month.

1 year or 6000 miles which ever comes first. Usually it has been time since my truck used to sit allot but now it is my DD I might actually make the mile limit first.

Let me qualify my recommendation - if it's not driven much, every 6 months with Motorcraft semi-synthetic. The 5.4 3V is very sensitive to contaminated oil. I would not waste money on full synthetic for this kind of service. Best times to do it are spring and fall.

Thanks for everyone's comments. I should have stated that it was on my 2010 FX4 w/5.4 and it's the dash info that is telling me that a oil change is required. Is that a time thing that's telling me that or something else?

Just looked and the last time it was changed was in July so I have only put 2K since then.

The message board is controled by miles driven but must be reset when the oil is changed. Sounds as if it was not reset with the last oil change.

I believe there is also a time factor too.

Following my suggestion, change the oil in the spring, then change it again in the fall.

I changed mine about 6 months ago finally, - but the last time I changed it before that was August 2009 lol. I put storage insurance on the truck for awhile and didn't drive it. I've been using the truck more this winter, - it's almost due for another change. No harm done from what I can tell, - so far anyway.

Besides, Labnerd said I'd be alright so I wasn't worried about it. I use to believe in the 6 month rule, - until I was enlightened
