Type of oil

What kind of oil are you guys running in your truck? I have a '08 FX4 5.4. I just bought in Nov and dealership used 5w30. So I am going to switch to 5w20 and just wanted to know what kind of oil do you guys recommend.

Thanks.

Use the oil that Ford recommends unless you know what you are doing.

Is there a reason some guys use 5w30 in there trucks? I was figuring to use 5w20 Motorcraft but wanted to see if there was something better out there. Is Royal purple worth the extra?

Unless you are in an extreme climate, use 5w-20. It's what the modular engine needs. Motorcraft provides all you need in an oil for a good price. It's important to use a quality filter such as Motorcraft, Purolator, Wix .....just stay away from Fram and the cheap filters from lube joints.

5w-30 quieted my truck down a lot, not as much ticking. I use Royal Purple because its a full synthetic, I could just as easily use Amsoil, Valvoline, or any other. I also send all my oil out to Blackstone to get tested.

Not everyone has good luck with RP - my nephew put it in his 4.0 pushrod Exploder and it caused major problems.

I tried RP in my SHO and supercharged expy at the same time last year and my truck loved it and my car hated it. I drained it a week later and put fully synthetic mobile 1 5/30 back in both my cars and both were happy again. I now have 5/30 RP back in my expy because I got a good deal on it but not sure if I want to keep it in there. Its not doing anything weird im just worried from what I read and how my car acted.
