2001 5.4 mifire cyl#8

OK, I had P0308 code come and go for a day or two at a time for months before it finally became constant. Once it became constant I replaced coil on the cylinder however this misfire and code were still there. A week or two later my battery died and I replaced it. Oddly enough when I cranked truck after connecting new battery the skip and code cleared up which surprised me but also pleased me. Now after couple months the skip and code are back on same cylinder misfiring full time really bad. I replaced the plug which was really black but not wet. So now I've got new coil and plug but still P0308 and TERRIBLE SKIP. Any suggestions appreciated. Thanks

Next things I'd suspect are a leaky fuel injector or maybe bad compression.

Bad compression would be a sign of a really bad major problem it seems. That's scary. How do find out it it's injector related? Can I check injectors myself somehow?

lift the fuel rail and with the injectors all firmly attached to it turn the key on. No leak? all good leak? replace the injector. If you dont have a leak move injector 8 to cylinder 5 and see if the miss moves with it.
