What just happened to my truck!!!???

I have a 2005 5.4 F150 FX4 with 92K. It has been a good truck till now and thinking the worse. I'm driving down the road and my truck starts shaking. I pull over and my motor is shaking in the truck almost like a bad motor mount. My belt looks good and so does everything lese that I can tell. My check engine light never came on. I'm about 3 miles from home hoping its bad gas and right when I get to my house it sounded a belt broke and my
truck just died. My belt was on when I got out and looked but did sound like it was coming from the motor. On these trucks do they have timing chains like the old days or now have belts? I'm just guessing that's what it was. I'm so bummed with Christmas time and know its going to be very expensive. I dropped it off at a garage but closed till Monday. The truck gauges come on but the motor wont turn over at all. Just clicks like a bad battery?

Anyone have any idea what they think it was and cost to fix it?

Thanks.

Thanks for the reply! How can I tell if its a 3v? Next it seems at this point it would be hard to prove even if it was the issue. I'm sure the dealer would lie about it. Ill check on it for sure regardless.

Yours is a 3V cause they all are from 04-10. I think he was just stating it more than asking.

Ope, Jim beat me to it

Thanks guys. I dropped it off at a local garage Ill see what they say and if it looks really bad will have them pull all the ejectors u think. Then if they see a bad one note it then take it to the dealer maybe? That way they cant say it was a bad ejector u think that caused the drive train issue?

A stuck-open injector could do a whole lot of damage, but knowing if one was indeed messed up will help.

I wonder if your Gryphon tunes will make them void whatever "warranty"/"coverage" Ford has out there, assuming it ends up being an issue caused by an injector.

I think you need to get it moved to a dealer. If a stuck injector caused the problem, it's covered along with collateral damage, but the work can ONLY be done at a dealer.

Yep - that was covered in the recent thread I linked to...

BTW - if you have incipient hydrolock, any further restarts could cause massive damage. Pull plugs / injectors in case someone inadvertently tries to crank it, until the problem is found.... unless it's already too late.

Good luck!

Be sure to remove the tuner or reflash to stock( I dont know which you used) or Ford WILL NOT warranty it.

They confirmed something broke inside the motor. I told them to leave it be and will tow it to the dealer this week and see what they say. The local garage thinks its the timing chain.

Yes already planned on removing the tuner before towing it to ford to be safe.

Hmmm .... in yer first post you said: "The truck gauges come on but the motor wont turn over at all. Just clicks like a bad battery?".

I could be wrong, but a broke timing chain won't prevent the mill from cranking.

EDIT: can't remember if the 3V is an interference engine - if so, then yep that might do it ... sorry about that ...

Good luck, bud - and please keep us posted - thanks for that!
