oil pressure sending unit issue?

When I start my truck up my oil pressure gauge generally reads zero and the engine light comes on. No knocking or anything, and it generally shuts off after driving it awhile (although it sometimes turns back on later). The truck runs just fine (I drove it from Ames, ia to Omaha, ne last weekend and it was on part of the time with no issues). There is an oil leak somewhere but I Havent had time to investigate it, so I spose its possible the two are related? Not sure. Anyway its an 89 with 351w. Any help's appreciated cause I haveta drive it back to Ames next weekend and I'd like it fixed before that. Thanks!

I would guess that the pressure gauge needs to be replaced,,, along with keeping an eye on the oil level in the truck. It dying is sign that it has low oil.

Or get a separate oil gauge and hook it up,, gauge with numbers.

Maybe try a oil stop leak from autoparts store.

If you have a leak and a low pressure indication, you could very well have a leaky sending unit. That's where I'd look first.
