cel and rough idle issues
Good morning. I'm currently having issues with my 2002 Harley Davidson and I could some help. I brought my truck up from Arkansas to Illinois about a year ago and and she was running beautiful. About four months ago I had to stop driving the truck so I get my driver license in order. I would start the truck every once in a while to make sure there was no issues with the truck. 2 weeks ago I notice the check engine light was on and it stayed on withou flashing. I thought it was the oxygen sensors but not sure. The reason why I thought that was because the truck would run fine but would consume more gas than usual. Now a few days ago I wanted to change the oil in my pickup and I wanted to get the best motor oil available for high mileage so end up getting royal purple full synthetic. The guy at advance auto suggested to me that I needed to get a bottle of motor flush to remove everything from the engine to introduce royal purple to my engine. After I dropped about two quarts of the old oil and add the motor flush and let the engine run for about 5 mins then I dropped the remaining oil and oil filter add new oil and filter. Right after I change the oil everything was okay. I let the truck sit overnight and now the truck is idling rough almost like the truck wants to go dead. I drove the truck on the highway and the accelerating is rough. When the truck is in the reverse gear the engine is knocking. When I have the truck in any other gear the idle rough. What could be the problem? I need someone advice.

1. Git the codes read and post them up. Without the DTC specifics, it's kinda impossible to answer this
2. This may not be the best place to ask - perhaps in the Engines forum?
3. Move back to Arkansas
Hi.
Well ,Autozone reads them for free - you need a code reader which plugs into the OBDII port under the dash. Ford can also do it but charges a fee to do so. Depending upon the error, a more sophisticated device than Autozone uses may be required.
Try to keep all yer Q's and progress in one thread - otherwise it confuses folks trying to help.
Perhaps contact a Mod to consolidate into one thread ( again - Engine forum is best for this, as stated).
BTW - slap the feller @ Advance. NEVER put any kind of crap additive into yer oil! Also, RP is unremarkable oil (and overpriced) - best to just stick with a known product like MC semi-synh 5w-20 and an MC filter.
Thanks & good luck

The advice is::::::
Do not fool with exotic oils, you don't need them nor are they an advantage.
You should see this from the results so far.
Replace the oil with 5w20 blend the original specified oil for this motor.
Replace the filter with specified Motor Craft unit.
Running the motor for short periods is not helping because it does not fully heat or fully recharge the battery.
.
For issues get a look for codes set then interpret the codes for most proper repairs.
As for rough idle and noise; if you did not not have these before, it takes some sorting out for the reasons.
Bottom line is there is no guessing on these engineered systems.
It cost you money and time and risks causing additional problems to further confuse and complicate.
Good luck.
