Correct plug?
Correct plug?
2001 F150 4X4 XLT extended cab with 4.6L 'w' engine.
Every site I've checked for correct plug lists motorcraft SP493. But I have bad coil per scan code. Taking advice from forums, much has been said that best to change all COP and Visteon being top shelf for the price. (argued with myself over ebay pricing, quality, etc. for several options, many cheaper) I pulled the trigger on an ebay listing for Visteon with plugs listed for Grand Marquis, I think. Contacted seller after filling in the compatibility prompts and it rejected my truck as compatible. Seller stated the COP were correct ones but spark plug was not.
I requestioned seller and wrote him that many other sites show that as correct plug. Last response was a bit testy stating his many years of experience, but will contact one more time trying to figure out what he knows saying that the SP-493 / AGSF32PM are not correct plug.
Does anyone know why that is not correct plug, such as some change via TSB or otherwise?
BTW, they are Visteon labeled coils with plugs for $20 less than coils alone from other vendors.

Yea they started up those plug/coil deals again, - at least one seller has that I know of on eBay. Those never paned out in the past because you would some how end up with incorrect plugs. So because of that hassle (among others), resellers quit offering cop/plug kits. Also you have to take what's said in those listings literally. - I mean don't assume anything lol.
When your looking for coils, - make ABSOLUTELY sure you can see the part label of what your purchasing. Or just post the link here and we can tell yuh. There's a few more things you should look for, - I won't get into that.
Your question, 2001 4.6L truck should be the same set up as the Marquis
MOTORCRAFT SP493 - Motorcraft Single Platinum-Tip Spark Plugs
MOTORCRAFT SP413 - Motorcraft Nickel-Alloy Spark Plugs
Yea, the Grand Marquis is the same.

Interesting I just looked at rock auto and they have dropped Motorcraft plugs! For my crown vic the motorcraft plug # is spf 413. Its pretty much the same engine infact orielys lists the spf 413 for your truck and spf 493.

Really, - I was using Rock as well. Looked up the 01 Grand Marquis, Crown Vic and F150. They still offer them from 01 +. What did you see jethat?
I looked again and it looks like I didnt scroll down far enough. They still carry platinum motorcrafts for my truck and it looks like they both carry coppers for my vic. spf 493's are 2.49 so i was mistaken it would appear

Huh. - I believe I know what the the seller is thinking about. Maybe? - Perhaps an older revision. Well not so much a revision, rather a discontinuation way back when.

Motorcraft Supersession info:• 12405 Replaced By 32P

But not inclined to trust that info either because drilling down to system for my 01, system being ignition, they showed spark plug wires for the 4.6L.
Does Ford make a double platinum equivalent?

I know what may be confusing, - just forget about that 3LE12405AA. Pretty sure that was discontinued. Vaguely recall, -discontinued since the 493 was compatible I expect. This is old stuff, but if I'm remembering correctly, Ford had a few sets of 3LEI heads out there. Got that from the old Babcox (engine builder) articles,- way back when lol.
If you really want the best plugs out there for your truck, - Denso Iridium's or NGK Iridium's. U know, the fine wires.
