I'm the lucky owner of a 04 FX4 with 67k miles on it that left me dead on the road awhile back. Threw the code for a misfire on #3 cylinder..... Long story short shop did a compression test with zero pressure, so he ran a scope down the cylinder and theres a hole in the top of the piston.... So my question is this. Is there a different motor that can be installed in that yr and model other than this 3v disaster Ford produced?

 

My SIL has an '04 with that engine, and so far it has been very reliable. Did it run lean or drop a valve? I believe you have to use a 3v, but I could be wrong.
