how much oil to use with remote filter

I have a 98, 4.6. The manual calls for 6 quarts, but wouldn't it take more since I have the relocated filter to fill those lines? I need to know how many quarts to buy.

The lines don't hold much.

Buy 7 quarts, use 6 to fill it, run it for a few minutes, park it on a level surface, shut it down, wait 15 minutes for draindown, then check the oil. If it's anywhere in the crosshatched area do not add more. When the oil drops below the ADD line, then you can put the 7th quart in.

If in between, do not add any. It doesn't need it until it hits low.

I should re-qualify that. Put in 6 quarts, let run for a minute or 2, then sit for a few minutes, then if in between low and max, do not add any. It doesn't need it until it hits low.

i just finished a little while ago. i put 6 quarts in, did what you said, and added a half a quart. all good to go. that oil filter was something else to get off though. took me 30 minutes just on that, and i broke my filter wrench.
