2005 f150 p0340 code

I have a 2005 f150 5.4 v8. It runs and sounds like a new truck when you start it. As soon as the truck reaches normal running temperature it knocks sputters shakes and dies. I have replaced the coils, spark plugs, both cam phasers, both cam phaser sensors, timing chains and gears and computer. . The "ford tick" is gone, but it won't run. I took it to a Ford dealer where they said it threw a p0340 code and that it was the alternator spiking causing a computer issue. So had the new computer put in and a new alternator. Went to get it today and it does the exact same thing. I have had nothing but trouble with this thing and no one including Ford has an answer for me. Does anyone have any suggestions? Please help! I have had it for a year and a half and it has spent more time at the shop than on the road.

Yes, they said they had one before like it that they worked on and changed everything. They said it only ran for a short time and every problem started all over again and that they can't fix it.

So they say they knew before they charged you they were ripping you off? Find another dealer. When you find one that knows there stuff go back and show them there FU. Go online and leave negative feed back on them everywhere you can. Call ford and ask why there service personal are not trained to fix there products at that dealership.

I did take it to a different dealer. The first one wouldn't even try to fix it. The second one said it was all the stuff I had done. The last thing they said was the distributor was causing it. They wanted $700 for the distributor nd change it. I had a friend change it in their parking lot for free and he did it in 15 minutes. Only that didn't help. It is still doing the same thing. I took my distributor to be tested. There wasn't anything wrong with mine. It is still sitting at the dealer. They will be back in tomorrow so I will see what they have to say now. The bad thing is they won't trouble shoot anything. They follow the book and do what it says to do. There's no guarantees that anything they do will fix it. I did call Ford, they don't care.they said it is too old and 130k miles are too many for them to care about. They said my only option is to keep letting them do their thing until they fix it. If I could just get the stupid thing running long enough to drive it somewhere and trade it off. As it is I can only get about 7 miles before it cuts out shakes knocks and won't stay running. The thing I hate the most is I love that truck but I haven't gotten to drive it much. Even if they fix it I am scared to keep it. I don't want stuck like this again.

Man your dealing with people who are idiots. How could you test the "distributor" when your truck does not have one? anybody give any thought to targeting what the code says is the problem? the camshaft position sensor?

P0340 OBD-II Trouble Code

Technical Description

Camshaft Position Sensor Circuit Malfunction

What does that mean?

This indicates that a problem was detected in the camshaft position sensor circuit. Since it says circuit, that means the problem could lie in any part of the circuit - the sensor itself, the wiring, or the PCM. Don't just replace the CPS (camshaft position sensor) and think that will definitely fix it.

Symptoms

Symptoms can include:

Hard starting or no start
Rough running / misfiring
Loss of engine power

Causes

A code P0340 could mean one or more of the following has happened:

a wire or connector in the circuit could be grounded/shorted/broken
the camshaft position sensor may have failed
the PCM may have failed
there exists an open circuit
the crankshaft position sensor may have failed

Possible Solutions

With a P0340 OBD-II trouble code, diagnosis can be tricky at times. Here are some things to try:

Visually inspect all the wiring and connectors in the circuit
Check for continuity in the circuit wiring
Check the operation (voltage) of the camshaft position sensor
Replace the camshaft position sensor as required
Check the crankshaft position circuit as well
Replace circuit wiring and/or connectors as required
Diagnose/replace the PCM as required

Thank you. I think the new sensor that was put on is faulty. I am considering having it towed home and check it myself.

Put in new VCT solenoids. Ran fine for a week. I was driving home and the motor blew up. I had to put a new motor in it. If I were you, I would clear the code and trade it off now before it gets too bad.
