2000 engine in a 1999 F150?????
My new 2000, 5.4 engine will be here in about 5 days, a piston slap replacement. The dealer told me that they will have to make a few modifications to fit the 2000 engine in my 99 Lariat. Anyone know what mods he is talking about??? I thought there were no major changes from 99 to the 2000's. Do the 2000's have the same horsepower as the 99's? I may be able to answer my own questions after talking with the dealer today. If so I will post his reply.
Thanks D

D:
I had two separate dealers at different dealerships tell me that the horsepower went up by 5 (to 265 HP) for the 2000 models, yet the F-150 advertisement books still say 260.
HOWEVER, the owners manual for the 2000's DO NOT list the horsepower anywhere, for any of the engines (pg 235). My 98 manual had everything listed for the different engines, including the HP ratings.
All I can say is that I clocked 0-60 mph in 7.8 seconds in my 2000 5.4L supercab yesterday (no modifications, except I added a K&N airfilter). The truck weighs 4,312 lbs) with 520 miles on it. Much, much better than my 98 5.4L supercab could do.

HI!... DUSTOFF: I'm just curios to know how you came up with your weight of 4312lbs on a extended cab. I got my truck professionally weighed and it weighed in at exactly 4352lbs with a 1/4 tank of gas and without me in it. A extended cab should way at least 300 to 400 pounds more than me, at least that was what I was told by the guy that weighed my truck.

Neal:
You are VERY correct..I did not take into consideration that I had to add MY weight and a full tank of gas!! MY MISTAKE!!
I took the weight from the delivery invoice and the "Certificate for origin for a vehicle" from Ford which listed the shipping weight at 4,312 LBS.
My 98 was actually at 4,351 lbs at delivery.
Whatever the true weight is, I still pulled off a 7.8 second 0-60 time in a 2000 supercab...and I like it!! Maybe the K&N helped a little??

While I was investigating my 2000 F-150 before I ordered, I noticed one difference in the 1999 and 2000 engines. The year 2000 5.4 Triton gets a revised exhaust manifold that looks more like a "shorty" cast iron header than the more traditional 1999 style. That may well be where the extra 5 ponies come from.

HI!... DUSTOFF : I have a feeling that your truck without you in it, will probably be closer to 4600lbs-4700lbs because a buddy of mine that has a 4x4 version of what you got weighed his truck and it was almost 5000lbs. Just remember that the heavier you are the less you feel it when you run over a chevy!8-)

SDDL-UP:
Good observation!..I would bet that you are correct..and since I added a K&N filter I should expect another 5 hp...for a total of 270 hp. Not bad at all for stock.
Neal:
I think you are 100% correct..the Oct 99 issue of Truck Trends tested a 1999 4x2 F-150 supercab, 5.4L (flareside)and it weighed 4,720 lbs.
The Feb 1999 issue of Truck Trends tested a 1999 4x4, F-150 Supercab, styleside, 5.4L and it weighed in at 5,020 lbs.
I am not sure why they list the shipping weight as 4,312 lbs.(and my 98 5.4L, XLT Supercab at 4,350lbs).
Thanks for the correction.
Good point about running over a chevy.. heheheheh
Even more impressive to think that the 5.4L Triton engine moves an almost 5,000lb vehicle up to speed that fast.

Well Folks: Now have my new 2000, 5.4 in my truck. After a week for delivery, the tech. getting a hernia while working on my ride, all is well in paradise. I was in no hurry if one condition was met by the dealer, I had to have a truck to use for towing my duck hunting boat while mine was in the hospital. The differences between the 99 and the 2000 are as follows:
the 99 has an aluminum intake, the 2000 a plastic intake. The 2000 has a little different exhaust manifold than the 99. All else is the same as done with a side by side comparison. The 2000 feels a little sluggish right now, but, that is expected with a new, tight, engine. Any of you folks need a great dealer that also gives GREAT service,
Don Shetler Ford in Sulphur, Louisiana. No I am not related to him in any way, just a very satisfied customer that was treated like a KING. I have faced the feared Piston Slap Fairy, and beaten him/her into submission.

Bob: The dealer used my old intake and exhaust manifolds. The factory suggests using the old intake because of the difference in locations on the vacuum lines. The new engine intake has some of the vacuum barbs in different locations than the 99. The exhaust manifold was nearly impossible to mount, the new manifold is a bit shorter than the 99 and would have required quite a bit of modification to fit. All seems well with about 100 miles on the new engine.

Hi D
The new engine your dealer put in, are you certain it isn't a rebuild? In Canada, Ford will not put a new motor in my buddy's truck. They say they only are liable for a rebuilt one, and he should have read his warranty card. What a load of Sheeeitttt! Let me know if Ford (US) is really putting in new engines please, as this will be more ammo for him to ram up Ford of Canada's tailpipe! If there is a tag on the back right oil pan rail that says Ford Quality Rebuild, then you got duped. If there is no tag, then obviously Ford in the US has more credibility than Ford of Canada. Thanks
