maitenance I should avoid?

While puttin my headers on I had to obviously take the dipstick tube off and noticed from where I went mudding years ago I had clay on the oil dipstick tube below the o-ring. So I planned on next weekend dropping the pan and cleaning it out. I was also going to take the valve covers off while I was at it and clean up the heads. My concern is after reading something in the sea foam thread about cleaning the heads you may knock some build up loose and it'll go to anpther part of your motor you REALLY don't want it in. Just wanting to confirm if I should do it or not
